Retirement Living at Oasis Life Burgundy Estate
Oasis Life Burgundy Estate is one of Cape Town’s most resident-centric, friendly retirement villages. Tucked between the Durbanville Hills and Century City, this lifestyle estate for retirees offers relaxed retirement living in one of Cape Town’s most accessible and fast-growing suburbs. It’s secure, beautifully landscaped, and designed for those who want simplicity — with the freedom to live life their own way.
We spoke to Christine and Hugh, residents of 14th Avenue, about finding the right home, embracing a connected community, and living a life full of comfort, calm, and cappuccinos.
Finding the Right Fit, Close to Family
For Christine, Oasis Life offered something few places could — proximity to her daughter and the comfort of a secure, resident-focused village.
“She’s just along the road, which I like,” Christine says. “It’s very close, but we’re in separate estates.”
Christine and Hugh were able to personalise their home, adding a tandem garage for Hugh’s treasured books and music — now affectionately known as his man cave.
“Rabie and the team at Oasis Life Burgundy Estate stepped up to the plate. They gave us the opportunity to make the adjustments we wanted to make this house our home.”

Comfort Meets Camaraderie
Burgundy Estate blends privacy and independence with shared spaces, security, and connection. Homes are fully maintained, while landscaped walkways and indigenous gardens create a calm backdrop for daily life.
“The gardens are tended by a team, and the inside of our homes are cared for by the residents,” Christine explains. “It’s peaceful. And if one has a problem, there’s always someone who offers to help.”
The estate’s Clubhouse is a hub of social life — with games, classes, wellness talks, and braais. The monthly levy covers everything from 24/7 security and exterior maintenance to garden services, shared amenities, and access to on-site nursing care.
“You know, you don’t have to worry,” says Christine. “Everything’s sorted — you can just live.”
From Crossword Mornings to Chair Aerobics
Christine and Hugh have fully embraced the lifestyle.
“Chair aerobics — I never miss it. There’s music, there’s laughter, and movement,” Christine says. “It’s not just exercise. You get out of the house. You have a laugh. You feel you’ve done something rewarding.”
There’s also Tai Chi, Canasta, chess, a walking group, and regular outings beyond the estate.
“We often pop down for a cappuccino,” she adds. “And before you know it, friends have joined — and it turns into a whole morning.”

Walking the Estate — And Meeting the Neighbours
Daily walks are part of the rhythm of life here.
“You’ve had some decent exercise — and a great catch-up,” says Christine.
The dogs all know each other — and so do their owners. From Roxy the kitchen-inspecting cat to Boris, the ginger who naps in the middle of the road, everyone plays a part in the community.
“It’s untroubled. It’s manageable. It’s ours,” Christine says.
Retirement That’s Really About Living
For Christine and Hugh, the move has been transformational.
“You walk past someone here and they greet you. You make friends without even trying,” Christine says. “It’s the best decision we made, and it’s improved our lifestyle tremendously.”
Her advice to others? “Don’t leave it too late.”
